How Does Our Experience Of Social Interactions With Other Humans Influence The Way We Interact With Machines

In today’s society, digital and social media have become a major part of our lives. Presently, every individual seems to have a virtual presence. Technology goes hand in hand with society. There is a lot of technological influence over the youth. There is a difference between the ways social interactions are carried on in a natural setting v/s the way interactions take place on a machine.

HOW DIGITAL INTERACTIONS ARE HELPFUL

Some experts believe that digital media helps in enhancing the time management skills, boost up our self-esteem, improve optimism, increase general knowledge along with increasing the productivity and social interactions. Social life can change our lives for better. By reading the optimistic posts about life, the individual feels good and motivated.
Children prefer studying on the internet since videos and pictures explain the course syllabus more easily than the regular textbooks. Teenagers like to make new friends on social media to increase their friend circle. Youths like to spend more time on social media for pinning their views openly without fear.

HOW DIGITAL INTERACTIONS ARE ADDICTIVE

However, the use of social media comes at a cost of becoming handicapped with a change in societal relationships. Social media makes our lives easier but complicated. A certain amount of stress is experienced which having a conversation online. The online identity has become more important than the real presence.
There is too much involvement in knowing what all is going around in the world. People have become too focused on getting to know the people through the machines rather than in physical form. Even in events and parties, people tend to spend more time in capturing pictures for uploading them on social media, over making new acquaintances.

HOW TECHNOLOGY IS AFFECTING HUMAN INTERACTION

Even though technology has given access to social connections that weren’t possible before, cyber interaction has taken over the social interactions in real life. The quality of social interactions as humans is degrading with the amount of time spent on a machine. People tend to keep texting or checking out their profiles, even when they are in the middle of an event.
People have started prioritising their life based on their online presence. For instance, teenagers click their pictures in the attires which fetches them a maximum number of likes. The unrealistic quotes, movies, television shows etc raise the bar for any relationship and make people want the ‘perfect’ relationship.
The functional society is getting handicapped by the use of machine-based interactions. Social media has become a metaphor for real life like robots have become metaphors for humans. Social interactions have become dependent on machines for learning new life skills and forming new relationships. Physical adaptations and social skills are being adversely affected by the social interactions in the machine.
