Are blogs better than books?


As the first written letter was invented, people were able to share information, to read from the text, not just to hear stories from other people. They were able to share their opinions, their stories with a much larger number of people. And the best of it that those stories could surpass their lives and lives of their loved ones because they were written down. From that time, we humans have a need to read, to inform yourself, to enter the worlds that are written on the paper right in front of us. But, with the invention of modern technology, we got yet another way to share our stories, our opinions, what we love and what we hate. And that way is through Blogs. Now, are blogs better than books or not? Well, let`s find out.

 Things that books do better

There are some things that books do better than blogs, that is for sure. First, the book is in the most cases higher quality than blogs. That is because books pass through many stages of the selection, correction and quality control if we may call it that. The only then book will be published to the public. Another benefit of books is that they are much, much longer than your blog posts. They can cover much more story in the more coherent way. There is very low chance that you will get the book that is poorly written, while the same cannot be said for the blogs themselves. Also, you don`t need a connection to the internet for reading the book. The only thing that you need, you guess it, is the book itself, nothing more. It is much easier to find a good book than the blog which you will like. And there are much more books other than blogs themselves. And there is much higher chance that you will learn something new and factual from the book than from the blogs.

Things that blogs do better

But there are also some things that blogs do better than books. First, blogs are much more personal. They usually consist of personal stories of the people who are writing them. You can find millions of personal stories, each one of them unique. There is a small chance that you will find two similar blog posts, while, on the other side, there is a high chance that you will run on the books that have pretty similar stories or points that they are trying to make. Also, you can much easier find yourself in the stories of the blogs than in the stories of the books. There is much higher chance that you will find the type of text that you are looking for. Also, the new blog post is released at a much higher rate than the books. Every day you will find a million new blog posts, and only a few hundred new books released. Also, in most cases, blogs are free to read, you don`t have to pay a cent to read it. If you don`t like it, you can just move on and look for the one that is for you. While you need to first put the money down so you could even get the access to the book, and you don`t know if you will like it or not. If you do like it, then all is good, but if you didn`t like it, then you have a failed investment on your hands. The only thing that you need for accessing all the blogs on the web is an internet connection and computer/smartphone. There are no physical media that might take the room inside your home. While books are physical media in most cases and will take a lot of room if you collect them.

In the end, are the blogs better than books?

The simple answer is no, but not because they are worse than books. Blogs and books are two different type of media, meant for the different type of consumption. Books are meant to engage you with their stories, well-written text and the quality of the same. While, on the other hand, blogs are more personal texts that are meant for people who are looking for specific type of reading material. All in all, books and blogs are bought a great reading media and they have their own special places in this world.
